The African Experts Database Project

FAQs

What’s the purpose of the survey?

This survey is part of a project by AfricaWorks to build a public directory of African experts in education, skills training, labour market development, financial inclusion and economic empowerment.

What’s the benefit to me?

By completing the survey, your name will be placed in a database of exceptional African experts. This will make you more visible to major donors, development agencies, and private sector companies who are looking for your kind of expertise, and should increase your opportunities for work.

The survey gives you the opportunity to add your details to the database and to ensure that they are accurate. Once the platform is complete, it will enable you to connect with others working in your sector and across different countries. You will receive notifications about upcoming job and work opportunities, and learn about the latest developments in your industry.

How do I know this is not a scam?

This survey is not a scam. It is part of the project run by AfricaWorks, a registered US 501c3 non-profit, and funded by Mastercard Foundation, a major Canadian foundation, based in Toronto, Canada. If you have any questions or concerns about this survey, please email survey@africaworks.net

How will my information be used?

The information you provide us will be uploaded to the database where it is protected. While the database is being complete, your information will be kept fully confidential. On completion of the research stage, Mastercard Foundation will contact you to see if you would be interested in receiving work opportunities and EOI requests issued by the Foundation. Once the platform is fully built, it will be publicly available. You have the opportunity to remove your data if you wish to do so or make changes to it. Your information will not be sent to any third parties.

Is this database GDPR compliant?

Yes. GDPR is a European Union directive the purpose of which is to protect anyone living within the EU from the unauthorised use of their personal data. GDPR requires the consent of any EU resident whose data is being stored.

Will I get work if I have my name in the database?

There is no guarantee that you will get work by having your name in the database. However, the purpose of this project is to give African experts like yourself greater opportunity to find work and to connect with employers who are looking for your skills. So we hope that you will let us know if you do get work from this endeavour!
